Why people love war

OXFORD - The Grayson Kirk Lecture Series and the international studies program at Miami University will host New York Times war correspondent Chris Hedges at 7 p.m. Monday in 144 Benton Hall. His topic will be "Why Do People Love War?"

Help for mom battling cancer

LOVELAND - Co-workers at the Lodge Care Center will host a benefit for Bronwyn Miller from 7 p.m. to midnight Nov. 8 at the Loveland FOE Hall, 127 Karl Brown Way. Proceeds from "Bronwyn's Battle Benefit Dance" will help defray expenses incurred by the single mother of three in her battle with thyroid cancer.

Admission is $15, at the door. An account has been set up for contributions: Battle for Bronwyn Miller; c/o First National Bank of Blanchester; 121 E. Main St.; Blanchester, OH 45107.

Drawing for parents and kids

AURORA, Ind. - Drawing, a parent and child interactive learning session sponsored by Gateway to the Arts, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 8 at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Fourth St.

Sharon Roeder will teach the basics of drawing by having each parent and child focus on careful observation. The class is recommended for children in grades 4, 5, and 6 and parents. Cost for each pair is $15. Materials are included.

Getting construction business

BOND HILL - Turner/DAG/TYS Construction Management will host a free reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Integrity Hall Banquet and Conference Center, 2081 Seymour Ave. Organizers invite vendors and contractors who are interested in future opportunities on large projects, such as Cincinnati Public Schools' building program, to attend the informal gathering.

Election Day Dinner

WILLIAMSBURG - The Auxiliary of Williamsburg American Legion Post No. 288 will hold its annual Election Day Dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Post Hall, 208 E. Gaining legislative savvy

SHARONVILLE - Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development will present a Breakfast Roundtable, "Why and How to Be Legislative Savvy," at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Center for Employment Resources, 3254 E.
