City's ban on pit bulls goes back on books
Cincinnati's new ban on pit bull terriers went back into effect Saturday, four years after it was lifted.
Harboring a pit bull is now a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.
City Council repealed the ban in 1999 in favor of a law requiring registration and strict control of the animals. But the council reversed itself in August after learning that only 11 city residents had registered their pit bulls.
Those previously registered dogs will be allowed to remain.
