OWENSBORO, Ky. - A local organization is helping a family of eight Liberian refugees settle here with the hope that more will soon follow.
The Liberian Relief Committee is an interdenominational group that has lined up help for Ruth Sehkar and her five sons and two daughters to immigrate to the United States.
"I don't want to see them raped and used by people who don't care for human life," said Daynah Zoe, Sehkar's son-in-law, who has lived in Owensboro for about a year. "I'm excited and grateful to God he's using these people."
Zoe, 30, cleans houses and is taking classes through Western Kentucky University. His 25-year-old wife, Zlanser, is majoring in biology at Brescia University. They have two children, ages 6 and 3.
