Smart Mouth

You heard it here first

Just In

Knowing that some cooks can never own enough gadgets, Swiss kitchen tool-maker Kuhn Rikon has introduced four specialty wire whisks: Galaxy Spring (for small jobs); Heart Spring (for reaching into corners of pans); Easy-Store (for general purpose tasks and easy storage); and Palm Spring, (for emulsifying vinaigrettes and salad dressings). The whisks cost $12-$18 and are available at www.cooking.com (800-663-8810).

Happy Birthday, Mr. Brown. Malt Advocate magazine has named Old Forester Birthday Bourbon ($32.95), distilled in the spring of 1990, as the "American Whisky of the Year." Based in Louisville, Old Forester releases a vintage bourbon every September to commemorate the birthday of its founder, George Garvin Brown.

What is this?

Pomegranate molasses is a thick and syrupy sweet-tart pomegranate juice reduction used in many Mediterranean dishes. It can also be used in vinaigrettes and as a glaze for roast pork and poultry. Available in Mediterranean and specialty markets, pomegranate molasses will keep for months in the refrigerator.

Tube Food

British chef Jamie Oliver prepares tapas for friends on a Spanish women's soccer team at 9:30 p.m. today on Oliver's Twist on the Food Network.

Cool Stuff on the George Foreman Grill

Cornmeal mush is great on the George Foreman. Just slice and cook it for five minutes. I get great comfort food without the added fat from frying.
