Buckeyes up to No. 4; RedHawks join polls

The Associated Press

The Ohio State Buckeyes moved up three spots to No. 4 and the Miami RedHawks are No. 23 in the Associated Press college football poll released Sunday.

The Buckeyes, who improved to 9-1 with a victory over Michigan State Saturday, benefited from losses by Miami, Fla., Virginia Tech and Florida State.

OSU trails No. 1 Oklahoma, Southern Cal and Louisiana State, which is in the top three for the first time in 42 years.

The RedHawks, who improved to 8-1 with a victory over then-No. 15 Bowling Green last Tuesday, are ranked for the first time since the 1976 preseason Associated Press poll.

The RedHawks are also ranked in the USA Today/ESPN poll, at No. 24.

The RedHawks, who have won eight straight, host Mid-American Conference East Division foe Marshall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Oklahoma and USC are expected to be the top two teams when the Bowl Championship Series standings are released today.

Ohio State, fifth in the BCS last week, could vault to No. 3. Florida State and Miami were third and fourth before their losses Saturday.
