FAIRFIELD - Police are searching for a gunman who tried to abduct a woman Tuesday as she put groceries in her Jeep at the Kroger store in Village Green.
A man holding a semiautomatic pistol grabbed the woman by her right arm about 5:30 p.m. and tried to force her into her vehicle, warning her not to speak, Fairfield police spokesman Lt. Ken Colburn said.
But after she yelled for help and yanked away, he shoved her and walked off. A witness followed the man to his vehicle and got a partial license plate number, Colburn said.
The 42-year-old woman is shaken but OK. The Cincinnati Enquirer is not naming her.
"We are certain it's a valid report. I've never seen or heard of anything like this in the city of Fairfield," Colburn said.
The gunman is described as a white man in his mid-20s. He fled in a dark green, black or blue small car with the partial license plate BV98 or BE98.
Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfield police: 896-8256 or 639-7820.
