Ex-top cop admits computer sex crime

The former Elmwood Place police chief used his work computer to solicit sex from what he thought was a 15-year-old girl, but was really a Hamilton County Sheriff's detective posing as the teen, he admitted Wednesday in court.

Jeremy Alley served only 11 days as chief before his April 25 arrest on five charges of importuning.

The 27-year-old St. Bernard man pleaded no contest to the charges in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court and was convicted. He faces up to five years in prison at his sentencing next month.

Alley, who was a computer officer for the 2,700-resident village before becoming chief, resigned April 23 - the same day deputies seized the department's three computers.

Traffic stop data ordered kept secret

A federal judge has upheld a gag order on the release of a report on alleged racial profiling by Cincinnati police.

At issue is a secret report from the University of Cincinnati analyzing two years of traffic stop data collected by Cincinnati police under a 2001 ordinance. U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael R. Merz ordered the report sealed until the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, the plaintiff in a class action racial profiling lawsuit against the city, can prepare a response.

U.S. District Judge Susan K. Dlott said Wednesday that the magistrate's orders "do not violate the public and press' right of access to court proceedings and documents."

Cincinnati's city solicitor and The Cincinnati Enquirer had urged the judge to reverse the gag order.

Police on lookout for woman, man

OXFORD - Have you seen this woman? Or this man? If so, police want to hear from you.

Heidi Moore, 20, described as 5-foot-7, 125 pounds, with dark hair, was last seen at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday at the Oxford Inn. Police say she didn't return to her home on Angela Court and has not returned telephone calls from friends or family.

Authorities think she may be with John R. Powers Jr., 45, who police say should be considered armed and dangerous because he may have guns with him. Oxford police say Powers also is wanted on two counts of felony theft.

Powers and Moore had worked for the same employer, police said.Powers may be driving a light-colored 2004 Nissan Sentra, with Ohio license plate EM63QB, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Oxford police at 524-5256 or the Cincinnati office of the FBI at 421-4310.

Mason announces intent to annex land

MASON - This Warren County city is taking steps to annex nearly 11 acres from Deerfield Township.

City Council approved an ordinance this week advising county commissioners of the benefits of annexing the land at the corner of Snider and Western Row roads and establishing buffer requirements. State annexation laws require both actions.

All the property owners have already petitioned Warren County to bring the land - and the rest of the intersection - into Mason city limits. Should the county approve it, the city plans to improve the intersection with turn lanes, bridge replacement, a traffic signal and other changes.

Luken to moderate panel on Israel trip

Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken departed Wednesday on a seven-day trip to Israel as part of a 40-member delegation of the Cincinnati Jewish Federation.

While there, Luken will moderate a panel discussion, "Promoting Communications and Cross Cultural Interaction Between Arabs and Israelis in a Crisis Atmosphere" with former members of the Knesset, a former ambassador to the United States and others.

Luken said he would miss two City Council meetings, and that no taxpayer funds were being spent on the trip.
