A Butler County sheriff's deputy who also served on Trenton City Council resigned from both jobs Wednesday, amid an internal sheriff's probe into allegations of misconduct.
Dennis Schiavone Jr., 29, gave no reason for his action in his one-line resignation letters, officials said. But sheriff's Lt. Mike Craft on Thursday said the sheriff's office is investigating "a variety of complaints surrounding his conduct and a female juvenile."
Authorities, however, didn't say whether the investigation was related to Schiavone's role as a school resource officer for Madison Local Schools.
The investigation was launched before Schiavone's resignations, Craft said, but he wouldn't say when it began.
The probe "is in its early stages," Craft said, and he didn't want to hinder its progress by releasing details.
Schiavone had been a sheriff's deputy since 1997; he was elected to a four-year Trenton council term in 2001.
"He didn't feel he could make any comments at this time," said Mayor Roy Wilham.
Council likely will fill the vacancy at its Dec. 4 meeting, Wilham said.
Schiavone could not be reached for comment.
He is the nephew of Middletown Mayor David Schiavone.
