XAVIER U. - Nearly two dozen students at Xavier University are growing their hair as long as possible to donate their tresses to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 who suffer from long-term medical hair loss.
Most of those children have lost their hair because of a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.
Sophomore Rebecca Foley of Milwaukee, one of the event organizers, hopes to have stylists cut participants' hair at halftime of the Feb. 6 women's basketball game at Cintas Center.
For information about Locks of Love, visit www.locksoflove.org. For information about the Xavier donation, call Foley at 924-5662.
