KENWOOD - Dr. Othilda Krug, known throughout the world for establishing one of the largest and best training programs for child psychiatrists at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, died Wednesday at the Seasons Nursing Home. She was 90.
Dr. Krug, UC professor emerita, "devoted her life to teaching parents and professionals how to understand and communicate with emotionally impaired children," said Michael Maloney, a former trainee.
"Trainees in psychiatry, psychology and social work came from across the country to study under Dr. Krug with her faculty and professional staff to learn the latest psychiatric treatments for children."
Born in Cincinnati in 1913 and called "Tillie" by her friends, Dr. Krug received a bachelor's degree from UC in 1934, a master's in psychology in 1935 and a degree in medicine in 1939, and became an M.D. in 1940.
She served an internship and received psychiatric training at the old Cincinnati General Hospital. Throughout the 1940s, she trained at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis.
Dr. Krug was director of the Children's Psychiatric Center from 1948 to 1983.
After her retirement, Dr. Krug endowed a professorship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and was the primary donor for the Tillie Krug Child Analytic Program at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute.
Survivors include a sister, Else Weyman of Fort Myers, Fla.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday,followed by the funeral service at Schmidt-Dhonau Funeral Home, 8633 Reading Road, Reading. Burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery in Springdale.
