FreeStore/FoodBank seeks $1.25 million
OVER-THE-RHINE - The FreeStore/FoodBank will kick off a three-month campaign to raise $1.25 million at 10 a.m. today.
Stephen Gibbs, chief executive officer and president, said demand has risen 15 percent to 20 percent since July, while the supply of donated food from manufacturers has dropped 8 percent.
"This can be disastrous for the 250,000 individuals served across 20 counties by the FreeStore/FoodBank through 500 nonprofit member agencies," he said.
Gibbs said that last year, more than 35,000 people, half of them children, were served at the Over-the-Rhine facility during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Police seek victims in cyberporn case
OVER-THE-RHINE - Cincinnati police say there might be more victims in a child pornography case in which a man has been indicted on 31 counts for images investigators found on his computer.
Officers have been investigating Eric Danilowicz, 31, of Over-the-Rhine, since his April arrest on charges of importuning in Belmont County, near Steubenville. Authorities there asked for help searching Danilowicz's apartment, where officers found a computer on which they said he saved pornographic images.
He is charged with pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. The images dated between September 2001 and March 2003, the indictment said.
Investigators want anyone with information about Danilowicz to call the Personal Crimes Unit at 352-6934 or Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
Loveland landmarks to honor 3 ex-mayors
LOVELAND - City landmarks will be rededicated next week to honor three former mayors.
Plaques placed at the veterans memorial on Riverside Drive will bear the names of Roland "Doc" Boike and George Anderson. Boike, who was mayor when council approved the memorial, has since volunteered time planting hundreds of annuals there each year. Anderson, a World War II veteran, led the effort to build the memorial.
In addition, a bridge on Wall Street, which was replaced in recent years, will be named after Cecil Bauer, a former mayor who lives in that neighborhood.
Mayor Donna Lajcak will dedicate the landmarks and make presentations Nov. 20, starting at the bridge near Kiwanis Park at 10 a.m. The ceremony will then move to the veterans memorial at Riverside Drive and West Loveland Avenue.
