AHL Ducks tie Phantoms
Hockey roundup
The Enquirer and wire reports
Boyd Kane scored a power-play goal late in the first period, lifting the Philadelphia Phantoms to a 1-1 tie with Cincinnati at the Spectrum.
Rookie Chris Kunitz gave Cincinnati a 1-0 lead earlier in the first with his fifth goal.
The Ducks have lost just once in their last six games (4-1-1-0) and twice in their last 11 (6-2-3-0).
Antero Niittymaki stopped 33 shots for Philadelphia, including five in overtime. Cincinnati's Ilya Bryzgalov made 27 saves.
ECHL CYCLONES LOSE: Cincinnati suffered its third straight defeat, falling to Peoria 4-2 at U.S. Bank Arena. Ryan Brindley and Fraser Clair scored for Cincinnati.
CCHA MIAMI WINS: The RedHawks, with two third-period goals, broke a 2-2 tie and defeated visiting Michigan State 4-2 for the 400th victory in the 26-year history of the program (400-494-66).
Phoenix Coyote Brian Savage, who played for Miami from 1990-93 and was a second-team All-American, will have his jersey retired prior to tonight's game with MSU at Goggin Arena.
Potvin, Bruins blank Blue Jackets
Glen Murray had two goals and Dan McGillis and Brian Rolston each had a goal and an assist - all in the first period - in the Boston Bruins' 4-0 victory over host Columbus on Friday night.
Felix Potvin stopped 24 shots for his second shutout of the season and the 30th of his 12-year career.
Lightning 5, Capitals 2: Fredrik Modin scored twice and Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and Cory Stillman added goals to help Tampa Bay snap an 11-game regular-season losing streak in Washington.
Coyotes 3, Stars 3: Phoenix's Branko Radivojevic scored his second goal of the game with 49.5 seconds left in regulation.
Radivojevic knocked a loose puck past goalie Marty Turco after Phoenix pulled goalie Brian Boucher for an extra attacker.
The Stars were without coach Dave Tippett, recuperating at home after emergency neck surgery.
Radoslav Suchy also scored for Phoenix. Rob DiMaio, Bill Guerin and Scott Young scored for Dallas.
Wings 4, 'Hawks 3, OT: Brendan Shanahan scored on a power play 1:08 into overtime to give Detroit its third straight victory.
Kirk Maltby had two goals for Detroit, and Brett Hull also scored. Igor Radulov scored twice for Chicago and Travis Moen added a goal.
Chicago goaltender Jocelyn Thibault will have arthroscopic surgery on his right hip today and could miss two months.
Penguins 2, Sabres 1, OT: Aleksey Morozov scored at 3:09 of overtime.
THRASHERS: Forward Francis Lessard, second among NHL rookies in penalty minutes, was suspended without pay for one game for a spearing infraction. He received a five-minute penalty Thursday for spearing Carolina's Bob Boughner, a former Cincinnati Cyclones defenseman, in a 5-1 loss.
