RedHawks rating tops since 1975

When the Miami RedHawks take the field at Ohio University Saturday, they'll do so as a top 20 program.
The RedHawks, who have won nine straight since losing the season opener at Iowa, moved up to No. 18 from No. 23 when the Associated Press poll was released Sunday. They are No. 19 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll.
The improvement in those polls helped the RedHawks jump from No. 16 to No. 14 in the Bowl Championship Series rankings, which were announced Monday night.
That puts the RedHawks ahead of such programs as Virginia Tech (17), Iowa (18) and Nebraska (22).
Miami's AP ranking is its highest since finishing 12th in the 1975 poll, which was released after the RedHawks - then known as Redskins - completed an 11-1 season with a 20-7 win over South Carolina in the Tangerine Bowl.
That was the last time Miami was in the Top 20.
