Best Bets: What's on TV tonight

Gannett News Service

Must-see

Ed, 8 p.m., Channels 5, 22.

With Thanksgiving eight days away, shows are using the holiday for fresh family confrontations. Here are several of them.

Ed finally has Carol back in town. He uses the time to create a blend of romantic memories.

Mike has bigger problems. His mom (Blair Brown) and domineering dad (Burt Reynolds) are back. He disagrees with his dad on everything, including how to prepare the turkey.

Meanwhile, Eli is working on a bigger scale. He wants to cook enough turkey to invite the poor to the bowling alley.

Other programs worth watching

My Wife and Kids, 8 p.m., Channels 9, 2. With her parents away, Claire's boyfriend feels it's party time.

A Minute with Stan Hooper, 8:30 p.m., Channel 19. Stan (Norm Macdonald) grumbles that there doesn't seem to be much effort at crime prevention in small-town Wisconsin. He soon confronts the town's odd justice system.

The O.C., 9 p.m., Channel 19. This series started with Ryan's older, bad brother getting him into car theft. Now Ryan and Marissa visit him in prison where she learns about Ryan's old life.

The West Wing, 9 p.m., Channels 5, 22. A budget stalemate leaves the government in limbo. Despite declining approval ratings, the president prepares for a confrontation.

JFK: Assassination: Investigation Reopened, 9 p.m., Court TV. Three days before the 40th anniversary of John Kennedy's assassination, this special re-examines the evidence.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, 10 p.m., Channels 12, 7. Lots of long, lean people (Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen, etc.) walk around in lingerie; also, there's music by Sting and Mary J. Blige.
