OU shutout streak on line against Tech

The Associated Press

This is a statistic borne of discipline and executed with dominance: Oklahoma's defense hasn't allowed a touchdown in three games.

"It's an amazing run," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said.

It'll be even more impressive if the Sooners' top-rated defense can continue that streak against Texas Tech, which boasts the nation's most prolific offense by more than 80 yards.

The Red Raiders are led by quarterback B.J. Symons, who needs just 83 more passing yards to break the NCAA's single-season record of 5,188 yards set by BYU's Ty Detmer in 1990. Symons already has set the school and Big 12 records for touchdown passes with 47 this season, erasing marks set by his predecessor, Kliff Kingsbury, last season.

Now Symons meets up with Oklahoma (11-0, 7-0 Big 12), which tops the country in total defense and is also first against the pass.

"They're going to get something," Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. "To shut them out for a whole game is virtually impossible. You've just got to limit their touches and make them work the field, not give up plays. That's what we've done pretty effectively."

LOUISVILLE: The school announced a scheduling deal Wednesday that will pit the Cardinals against one of the top teams in college football twice in the next three seasons.

The Cardinals have agreed to a two-game deal with the Miami Hurricanes, athletics director Tom Jurich and head coach Bobby Petrino announced.

"We want to continue to play good people," Jurich said. "We've said that ever since we got here and at least got the program respectable, we would play anybody."

WISCONSIN: Barry Alvarez would be just the 10th coach in Big Ten history to pick up 100 wins at the same school if Wisconsin beats No. 17 Iowa Saturday.

Since coming to Wisconsin in 1990, Alvarez has a 99-65-4 record. But he admits he didn't think much about the prospect of winning 100 games with the Badgers during his first season.

The Badgers won only one game that season. "It's 100 years if you go at that pace," Alvarez said.

Tonight's game

Texas Christian University puts aside its Bowl Championship Series thoughts tonight when it plays at Southern Mississippi. No. 10 TCU (10-0, 7-0) can clinch its first outright C-USA title by beating the second-place Golden Eagles (7-3, 6-0).
