MU's Horace doubles up as RedHawks win opener

LYNCHBURG, VA. - Juby Johnson scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Danny Horace had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Miami of Ohio to a 71-55 season-opening victory over Liberty on Friday.
Josh Hausfeld scored on a layup with 3:28 left in the first half for the RedHawks (1-0) to cap a 13-2 run that gave Miami a 32-25 lead.
In the second half, the RedHawks completed a 16-6 run on a 3-pointer by Tim Schenke with 9:12 remaining in the game to make it 55-38.
Larry Blair made a three-point play to give the Flames a 23-19 lead 6:25 before halftime. After falling behind, Liberty was able to cut the RedHawks' lead to 39-32 on a jumper by David Dees five minutes into the second half.
Chet Mason finished with 12 points for the RedHawks.
The Flames were paced by Gabe Martin with 19 points and seven rebounds.

N.C.-Wilmington 65, Marshall 56
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Ed Spencer scored 15 points and North Carolina-Wilmington led most of the game to beat Marshall, spoiling the debut of Thundering Herd head coach Ron Jirsa.
Beckham Wyrick (Roger Bacon) was the only other Seahawks player in double figures with 12 points.
A.W. Hamilton led Marshall with 14 points.
In the first meeting between the schools, UNC-Wilmington extended a five-point halftime lead to 39-29 a minute into the second half.
The Seahawks then committed numerous turnovers and went on a six-minute scoring drought when three players picked up their third fouls.
Marshall got as close as six points on two occasions the rest of the way. UNC-Wilmington sealed the contest by making 10-of-14 free throws over the final 90 seconds.
Toledo 71, IUPU-Fort Wayne 53
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Keith Triplett scored 17 points and Sammy Villegas added 16 to lead Toledo.
The Rockets (1-0) shot 43 percent from the field. Justin Ingram made two of three 3-pointers, while A.J. Shellabarger led all bench scorers with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Chauncey Shelton grabbed eight rebounds to help the team to a 27-24 advantage on the offensive glass.
