Live or cut? Real or fake? Every year, a lot of us have to rethink our Christmas tree decisions.

Do we want a live tree we can plant later in our yard, or one we can pack away in a box for use next year? Do we want to run to the corner lot to pick out our favorite size Christmas tree, or take the family on a day's outing to the country to cut a live tree in the great outdoors?

So many questions. But we have the answers - from tips on choosing the best type tree for your lifestyle to our annual list of places to cut your own.

Hamilton County

Sterwerf's Tree Farm, 11820 Edgewood Road, Harrison.

Take I-74 west to New Haven Road (exit 1); turn right on New Haven Road. Go two miles to Edgewood Road; turn left on Edgewood Road. Farm is 21/4 miles on right.

Type: Cut-your-own Scotch pines up to 8 feet.

Special features: Wreaths, saws provided.

Dirr Nurseries, 6066 Goshen Road, Stonelick.

Take I-275 to Ohio 28 and travel east six miles to Goshen. Turn right (south) on Goshen Road for four miles.

Types: Scotch and white pine, up to 10 feet.

Special features: Saws, tree shaker, baler; farm animals, nativity display, wreaths, balled-and-burlapped trees.

Cost: $32, any size.

Krody Christmas Tree Farm, 2929 Bethel Road, Bethel.

Ohio 125 east to Bethel, north on Ohio 133. At north edge of town (Minton's Glass Shop), bear left on Bethel-Concord Road. Farm is 1/3 mile on the left, opposite Sunset Drive.

Types: Well-sheared Scotch pine up to 10 feet, some white pine and Norway spruce. Handsaws provided, free coffee, hot chocolate and twine.

Cost: $20.

Spring Grove Farms, 2088 Bethel-New Richmond Road, New Richmond.

Take I-275 to Ohio 125 east. Turn right on Ohio 222 and right on Bethel-New Richmond Road. Or take I-275 to U.S. 52 east and turn left at third traffic light in New Richmond.

Types: Scotch and white pine and Norway spruce.

Cost: Cut-your-own $35. Blue spruce $45. 10 foot and above $45. Balled-and-burlapped $55 up.

Brown County

Corsi Tree Farm, 1651 Bolender Road, Hamersville.

Take I-275 east to Ohio 125 east through Bethel. About 41/2 miles east of Bethel, turn left on Liming-Van Thompson Road for 11/2 miles. Turn right on Bolender Road. Farm on left.

Types: Colorado blue and Norway spruce; Scotch and white pines; balsam and Douglas fir. Trees to cut up to 10 feet. Saws provided. Dug-and-burlapped trees up to 7 feet.

Special features: Balsam wreaths, garland, trimmings, tree stands and tree disposal bags.

Cost: Any size spruce, fir or white pine $35, including tax. Any size Scotch pine $20, including tax. Live trees approximately $12 per foot for spruce and $10 per foot for white pine, tax not included.

Types: Scotch pine and Canaan Fir.

Special features: You cut or workers will cut and load for you.

Halen Tree Farm, 1321 Goos Road, Hamilton.

Take I-275 to Colerain Avenue (U.S. 27) north for 51/2 miles.Turn right on Ohio 128 for two miles. Turn left on Smith Road for 31/2 miles. Turn left on Goos Road and go 1/2 mile to farm. Follow signs.

Types: Scotch pine, Norway and blue spruce, up to 10 feet. Saws available.

Special features: Baling with netting.

Take U.S. 27 (Colerain Ave.) north to Millville. Take Ohio 129 (Hamilton-Scipio Road) seven miles west to farm. From Oxford, take Ohio 732 (Oxford-Reily Road) seven miles south (through Reily where name changes to Sample Road) to farm.

Types: Cut-your-own or pre-cut. Scotch and white pine, Canaan and Douglas fir, 5-9 feet.

Special features: Trees shaken and baled. Stands and drilling available. Crafts, gift items, free refreshments.

Types: Scotch and white pine, Blue and Norway spruce, Douglas and Canaan fir. Balled-and-burlapped trees in some varieties.

Take I-75 north to Tylersville Road exit; turn left and go 11/2 miles west. Turn right on Lesourdsville-West Chester Road. Farm is on left.

Types: White or Scotch pine. Cut-your-own or cut for you.

Cost: $30- $40.

Berninger Trees, 1220 Stubbs Mill Road, Lebanon.

From I-71, take Ohio 48 north. Turn right on Ohio 123, then make immediate right on Stubbs Mill. From I-75, take Ohio 63 east through Lebanon. This becomes Ohio 123. Turn right on Stubbs Mill. Go 1.1 miles to farm on left.

Types: Most types of trees available. Saws and refreshments provided.

Cost: $25 most trees.

Big Tree Plantation, 2544 Waynesville Road, Morrow.

Take I-71 to exit 32 (Morrow), go east one mile to South Waynesville Road, then south 1/2 mile to stone entrance on left. From I-75 take exit 29 and go east on Ohio 63 to downtown Lebanon to where it becomes Ohio 123. Cross over I-71 to Waynesville Road and turn right. Big Tree is 1/2 mile on left.

Types: Scotch and white pines; Fraser, Douglas, Canaan balsam firs; Colorado blue spruce.

Special features: Nativity scene, free hot chocolate, horse-drawn wagon rides $3 each or four/$10, two-story gift shop, live reindeer, free tractor-pulled wagon ride to harvest your tree, wreaths, greens and garlands.

Types: Scotch and white pine, fir and Colorado or blue spruce. Hot cider, free horse-drawn hayrides, bonfire.

Take I-275 East to U.S. 50, east to Hillsboro, then south on Ohio 73; go 8.8 miles. Turn left on East Deadfall and go two miles. Turn left on Pleasant Road, then turn into second driveway on right. Follow signs

Types, prices: Scotch (4-14 feet) $27; white pine (4-12 feet) $25; Canaan fir (4-10 feet) $30; blue Spruce individually priced.

Adams County

Miller's Christmas Trees, 1600 Eckmansville Road, West Union.

I-275 to Ohio 32 east. At Ohio 136, turn right (south). At Ohio 125, turn right (west) for one mile to Eckmansville Road. Turn right on Eckmansville for 11/2 miles to farm. Look for signs.

Types: More than 2,000 hand-sheared Scotch and white pines to 7 feet and Colorado blue spruce and Douglas fir to 6 feet.

Special features: Free hot chocolate and cookies. Hand-made wreaths made fresh daily ($16 and up); roping, swags and tree disposal bags. All trees mechanically shaken and wrapped for transport.

Cost: Pines $18 up; spruce and fir $20 up.

Cost: $35 for cut-your-own tree.

Types: Scotch pines to 8 feet, white pines to 9 feet. Balled-and-burlapped white pine/blue spruce 3-6 feet. Pre-cut Fraser fir, white pine and blue spruce 6-9 feet.

Bohman Christmas Tree Farm, 9801 E. Base Road, Greensburg.

Forty miles west of Cincinnati: Take I-74 west to New Point, exit 143. Go North about 1/4 mile and turn right on Base Road for about two miles to farm (follow signs).

Types: Scotch and white pine, Fraser, Canaan, concolor and Douglas fir, up to 15 feet.

Special features: Free wagon rides, popcorn, hotdogs and soft drinks.

Cost: $5 up.
