Nagging hip injury sidelines Lemieux
Enquirer wire services
PITTSBURGH - Mario Lemieux will be out indefinitely because of an injured left hip that already has sidelined him for more than three weeks.
The Pittsburgh Penguins' star center will miss home games this week against Philadelphia and the New York Rangers, a road game at Carolina on Saturday and, possibly, many more.
This season, the Penguins (5-10-3-1) are 2-6-0-1 without Lemieux.
"Mario continues to rehab and continues the treatment, but unfortunately he's going to be out indefinitely," Penguins coach Eddie Olczyk said Monday.
Panthers 2, Sabres 1 - Florida defenseman Mathieu Biron became the first NHL player in 23 years to score against his brother, beating Buffalo goalie Martin Biron in Florida's win.
Phil Esposito of the New York Rangers was the last previous player to accomplish the feat, scoring on brother Tony of Chicago on Nov. 5, 1980.
Capitals 4, Red Wings 1 - Jaromir Jagr, Robert Lang and Dainius Zubrus combined for eight points to give Washington the win.
Maple Leafs 2, Canucks 1 - Ed Belfour passed Glenn Hall for fifth place on the career victory list, stopping 24 shots in Toronto's win.
Belfour has 408 victories, 15 shy of Tony Esposito for fourth place. Patrick Roy is first with 550.
Stars 5, Coyotes 2 - Mike Modano, Jason Arnott and Jere Lehtinen scored power-play goals in Dallas' win.
