DELHI TOWNSHIP- The College of Mount St. Joseph presents "A Victorian Christmas Feast" 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at the school's Fifth Third dining hall.
The Victorian era will come alive as singing staff members dressed in 19th century attire serve period food. The event will feature musicians with Mount singers performing favorite Christmas songs.
Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and students, $12 for children. For tickets and reservations, call (513) 244-4299. Reservations deadline is Dec. 4.
Miami professor earns teaching award
OXFORD - Steven Bauer, a professor of English at Miami University, was selected this year's Effective Educator by alumni from the class of 1999. He received the award from the school's Alumni Association during Homecoming weekend.
The award recognizes faculty who have had an enduring influence on students beyond their college years. Bauer, who teaches creative writing, has received five teaching awards since he joined the faculty at Miami in 1982.
Xavier presents music program
EVANSTON - Xavier University's music department will join with the school's campus ministry to present the second annual "Advent Lessons and Carols" concert Wednesday. The public is invited to the event, at 7:30 p.m. in Bellarmine Chapel on the school's Evanston campus.
Advent lessons will be read, followed by either a short anthem by the choir or by a hymn for everyone to sing. Music will range from the Renaissance to contemporary periods.
There is no cost to attend.
Wilmington holds discussion of holidays
WILMINGTON - The office of religious life at Wilmington College will host its Winter Holiday Ecumenical Celebration 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the McCoy Room of Kelly Center. Organizers say that winter holidays in the latter part of the calendar year are integral to many faiths and philosophies.
Discussions will include the meaning of the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah; Kwanzaa, which originated in Africa; and Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a Catholic observance honoring the legendary appearance of the Virgin Mary near Mexico City in 1531.
The event is free to the public.
NKU presents Spanish Sojourn
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS - The music department at Northern Kentucky University will present "Spanish Sojourn: An Evening of Opera" under the direction of Richard Cowan, an artist-in-residence at the college.
The performances, to be at7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, will feature excerpts from five different operas, all of which take place in Spain. The five operas are Mozart's Don Giovanni, Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Bizet's Carmen, Beethoven's Fidelio, and Rossini's Barber of Seville.
The performance will feature students from both the music-and-theatre and dance departments. The performance will also feature Min Sun Park, accompanist. The event is free.
