MONTGOMERY - A style of managing from the bottom up has won the city recognition on an international level.
Montgomery has been selected from more than 75 applicants to showcase its High Performance Organization program at Innovation Groups' annual conference this June in Reno, Nev.
Innovation Groups networks local governments interested in new methods of delivering service.
Montgomery officials established the program, called TARGET (Taking Action to Reach Goals through Empowerment and Teamwork) about two years ago after attending a seminar at the University of Virginia, City Manager Cheryl Hilvert said.
The city's 60 full-time and 40 part-time workers participate in teams to develop initiatives such as the city's Web site, employee health insurance benefits, wellness program, special events coordination and a customer feedback process. They also help evaluate each other's performance, as well as that of their supervisors.
Hilvert said that at least two other suburban Cincinnati communities - Wyoming and Indian Hill - employ the management style to some degree.
