Today's Top 25 games
No. 5 Georgia (9-2) at Georgia Tech (6-5)
Time/TV: 1 p.m./Ch. 9, 2.
Line: Georgia by 8.
Points: When is a nonconference game really a conference game? When you're Georgia, trying to protect your ranking to win the Southeastern Conference East tiebreaker. Georgia DE David Pollack turns his attention to Tech QB Reggie Ball, who has played well at times but couldn't get the offense moving against Virginia last week. Yellow Jackets RB P.J. Daniels must help, but Bulldogs LB Thomas Davis is fast to plug holes against the run. Georgia QB David Greene will face constant pressure from Tech LB Keyaron Fox. Extra point: Georgia's 51-7 rout last season was not typical of this series, in which 38 of 95 meetings have been decided by a TD or less.
No. 10 Miami (9-2) at No. 20 Pittsburgh (8-3)
Time/TV: 8 p.m./Ch. 9, 2.
Line: Miami by 3.
Points: Miami looks to represent the Big East one last time in the BCS before departing for the Atlantic Coast Conference. Pitt WR Larry Fitzgerald looks to extend his streak of games with a TD catch to 18. CB Antrel Rolle, who hasn't been beaten for a TD since last year's opening game, will try to contain Fitzgerald. Miami QB Brock Berlin, who has regained the starting job, will need to expand his sights beyond TE Kellen Winslow and RB Jarrett Payton if Panthers LB Lewis Moore shuts down the short game.
No. 19 TCU (10-1) at Southern Methodist (0-11)
Time: 3 p.m.
Line: TCU by 24.
Points: Unhappy Horned Frogs won't be kind to hapless Mustangs.
Nevada (6-5) at No. 18 Boise State (10-1)
Time: 3:05 p.m.
Line: Boise State by 22.
Points: The Broncos can claim outright Western Athletic Conference title before heading to Hawaii.
No. 21 Virginia Tech (8-3) at Virginia (6-5)
Time: 1 p.m.
Line: Virginia by 1.
Points: Tech QB Bryan Randall will need to get WR Ernest Wilford enough touches to open the interior for RB Kevin Jones. Tech has been susceptible against the run of late, but that isn't Virginia's strength. Extra point: The Hokies own a four-game winning streak in the series, which they lead 43-36-5.
Toledo (8-3) at No. 22 Bowling Green (9-2)
Time/TV: Noon/ESPN.
Line: Bowling Green by 8.
Points: The winner of the I-75 showdown will determine Miami's West Division opponent, with the winner's venue hosting the Mid-American Conference championship game. Falcons QB Josh Harris is a dual threat. His aerial weapons are WRs Cole Magner and Charles Sharon with RB P.J. Pope (Wyoming) leading the ground attack. Toledo QB Bruce Gradkowski's primary asset is WR Lance Moore, who leads the nation with 96 catches.
