Lewin's 29 points pace NKU to victory

Freshman Brian Lewin scored 29 points as Northern Kentucky, ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division II, defeated Missouri-St. Louis 88-85 Saturday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Regents Hall.
Lewin, a Covington Catholic graduate, was 9-of-12 from the field and connected on five 3-point shots. He scored five points in the final three minutes as NKU held off a late rally by Missouri-St. Louis to improve to 4-3 overall.
Steve Purdon (Covington Catholic) added 16 points for the Norse, who made 11 of 20 3-point attempts. Mike Kelsey finished with 14 points, and he converted three free throws in the final 12 seconds to clinch the victory.
Jonathan Griffin led Missouri-St. Louis (2-3, 0-1 GLVC) with 24 points. The Rivermen hit 11 of 22 3-point attempts.
Thomas More 74, Wilmington 62
Thomas More opened a 19-point halftime lead and held on for its second road victory.
Senior forward Paul Hardy scored a career-high 15 points and had seven rebounds for the Saints, who improved to 2-2.
Thomas More next plays at Mount St. Joseph at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Women
NKU 71, Mo.-St. Louis 64
Freshman Karyn Creager scored 11 of her career-high 16 points in the second half for Northern Kentucky at Regents Hall.
Creager scored nine points in the final 8:59 as NKU rallied to win its GLVC opener.
Sharell Snardon scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead NKU, which improved to 3-1 overall.
Snardon has scored in double figures in 14 straight games dating to last season.
Thomas More 56, Centre 31
Thomas More forced 26 turnovers and outrebounded the Colonels 52-26 en route to the 25-point victory in the semifinals of the second annual Julie Costello Memorial Tournament at Thomas More.
The Saints had 12 players score at least one point, led by senior guard Joanna Bess, who had nine points.
Thomas More will play Westminster (Pa.) in the championship game at 3 p.m. today.
Mount St. Joseph 49, Kenyon 38
Senior Virginia Grace (Colerain) surpassed the career 1,000-point mark for the Lions (2-2). Grace, who needed three points entering the game, hit a jump shot 12:02 into the first half for the milestone. She finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Nekeala Richardson (Hughes) led all scorers with 15 points.
