Capitals' Bondra puts hat on Columbus

Peter Bondra scored three goals to move into fourth place on the NHL's career scoring list for European-born players, leading the Washington Capitals to a 5-3 victory Saturday over the host Columbus Blue Jackets. Bondra, from Ukraine, registered his 19th career hat trick. The three goals broke a tie with Toronto's Alexander Mogilny and pushed his career total to 461.
Red Wings 2, Blues 1: Chris Chelios became the 11th defenseman in NHL history to record 900 points, and Boyd Devereaux scored with 2:23 remaining.
Flyers 5, Islanders 1: John LeClair had a goal and an assist during Philadelphia's five-goal second period, as Philadelphia extended its unbeaten streak to 12.
Thrashers 2, Lightning 1: Vyacheslav Kozlov and J.P. Vigier scored third-period goals to offset Miami grad Dan Boyle's goal.
Hurricanes 4, Penguins 3: Radim Vrbata's second career three-goal game lifted Carolina.
Kings 3, Blackhawks 1: Michael Cammalleri had his first two-goal game in the NHL, and Brad Chartrand snapped a 33-game scoring drought with a short-handed goal to extend Chicago's winless streak to 11 games.
Leafs 2, Senators 1: Toronto's Bryan McCabe Ottawa's Patrick Lalime during a two-man advantage in the second period.
Habs 1, Panthers 1: Florida's Viktor Kozlov scored with 1:11 left in regulation for the tie.
ECHL CYCLONES LOSE: Cincinnati fell to the Dayton Bombers 3-2 at U.S. Bank Arena. The loss drops the Cyclones to 9-10-0.
Alex Johnstone, Richard Naumann and Jamie O' Leary scored for Dayton, Tom Rouleau twice for the Ducks.
AHL DUCKS: Cincinnati completes a three-game homestand at 5:05 p.m. today against the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Gardens.

DAVIS CUP: Mark Philippoussis gave Australia its 28th title, fighting off a shoulder injury to beat Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, 6-0 in Melbourne.

BREEDERS CROWN: Pacing Triple Crown winner No Pan Intended locked up Horse of the Year by winning the Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Pace at the Meadowlands.

TURFWAY PARK: Don't Countess Out is the 8-to-5 favorite in today's Holiday Inaugural, the opening-day feature of Turfway Park's holiday thoroughbred racing meeting. First post is 1:10 p.m. General admission and parking are free.
The holiday meet runs run through Dec. 31. CHURCHILL DOWNS: The Cliff's Edge edged Gran Prospect by three-quarters of a length in the Grade II $222,200 Kentucky Jockey Club for 2-year-olds on the track's closing day.
Be Gentle, ridden by John McKee, beat Lotta Kim by a length in the Grade II $230,000 Golden Rod for 2-year-old fillies. It was trainer D. Wayne Lukas' record fifth Golden Rod victory.

SKINS GAME: Annika Sorenstam made history and a spectacular final shot to come away the big winner against her male competitors in the first day of the $1 million event. Sorenstam sank a 39-yard shot from a sand trap for eagle to win $175,000 on the par-5, 524-yard ninth hole.
Phil Mickelson earned $100,000 with a pair of $50,000 skins at the new Trilogy Golf Club. Fred Couples sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the first hole for a $25,000 skin. Defending champion Mark O'Meara had no skins.
NEDBANK: Sergio Garcia shot a 2-under-par 70 for a 12-under 204 total to take a one-stroke lead over Retief Goosen after three rounds in Sun City, South Africa.
