"We do quite an evening," promises Hairspray composer and co-lyricist Marc Shaiman. "John (Waters) on his own is wonderful, but with us it's not to be missed."

Notorious indie film director and Hairspray creator John Waters and Tony Award-winning musical team Shaiman and Scott Wittman will make a personal appearance Dec. 8 at the Aronoff, first in a proposed "An Evening With..." speaker series from Broadway in Cincinnati.

The program will include lots of stories, a question and answer session and Shaiman promises it will end big with his own rendition of a number or two from the show.

Waters' oeuvre ranges from Pink Flamingos to Pecker. Shaiman is acquainted with all the musical stars that there are in the heavens (to say nothing of those South Park guys). So there should be a lot to talk about.

Tickets are a $25 to $40. Tickets including a post-lecture reception are $100.

The presentation is at 8 p.m. in the Aronoff Center's Procter & Gamble Hall. Information and reservations: 241-7469.
