UNION - A Union man was killed Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision on U.S. 42 near Ransom Drive.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Darrell Messer of Andrews Road. According to the sheriff's office, Messer was driving west on U.S. 42 about 3:45 p.m. when his vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane. A pickup truck traveling east swerved, trying to avoid Messer's car, but the vehicles collided.
Messer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Those in the pickup, who were wearing seat belts, were treated for injuries at St. Luke West Hospital and released.
Man shot dead at gas station
BOND HILL - A shooting early Saturday left one man dead and police searching for a witness.
Brian Maxwell, 21, address unknown, was shot several times at the Shell gas station, 1900 Seymour Ave., at about 3:25 a.m. He died at University Hospital.
Cincinnati Police Sgt. Bob Liston said police had no suspects. Dozens of people saw the shooting, but everyone in the crowd left the scene when police arrived, Liston said. Maxwell is the city's 62nd homicide victim this year.

Second pedestrian dies after being struck
GREEN TOWNSHIP - A second pedestrian hit by a car while walking along Beechgrove Lane in this western Hamilton County suburb last week has died.
Douglas Kordenbrock, 39, was pronounced dead Friday at University Hospital, according to the county sheriff's office.
On Nov. 22, shortly before 1 p.m., Kordenbrock and Lisa Sahay, 43, both of Green Township, were walking northbound on Beechgrove Lane when they were hit by a car that had gone left of center, according to investigators.
The car, a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Eleanor C. Heidi, 76, also of Green Township, was southbound.
Investigators said Heidi lost control of the car.
Sahay died that day. Police continue to investigate. No charges have been filed.
County jailer charged with sexual battery
DOWNTOWN - A Hamilton County jailer has been charged with sexual battery for allegedly having sex with a female inmate while on duty at the justice center.
Ryan Q. Snyder, 23, had sexual contact with the inmate Nov. 17, according to a sheriff's report. He was arrested Nov. 26.
It is illegal for jailers to have sex with inmates, even when the sex is consensual.
