No. 3 UConn wallops Lehigh

The Associated Press

HARTFORD, Conn. - Ben Gordon scored 19 points and had a career-high five steals to lead No. 3 Connecticut to a 75-55 victory against Lehigh on Monday night.

The Huskies (5-1) were playing their first game after relinquishing the No. 1 ranking, which they held in the preseason poll and for the first two weeks of the season.

Rashad Anderson finished with 14 points, and Denham Brown had 13 points and eight rebounds to help UConn overcome a rocky first half against the smaller Mountain Hawks (1-3).

The Huskies broke away with a 13-2 run in the closing minutes to take a 37-26 halftime lead. UConn was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in that spurt. Lehigh's only points in the final 2 1/2 minutes came off free throws made when Brown was called for a technical for trash talking.

UConn shot 55 percent in the second half and led by as many as 26 points with five minutes left.

No. 24 Marquette 71, No. 23 Notre Dame 58

MILWAUKEE - Steve Novak scored a career-high 21 points, including five three-pointers, and Scott Merritt added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (5-0).

Torin Francis had 23 points and nine rebounds for Notre Dame (2-1).

Novak hit consecutive three-pointers that gave Marquette a 63-49 lead with 3:57 to play. Thomas cut it to seven with 1:23 to play, but Novak made four free throws and Travis Diener added two to seal the win for Marquette, which led 22-5 halfway through the first half.

INDIANA: Center George Leach will be sidelined indefinitely after injuring his left knee.

The 6-foot-11 senior was injured with about nine minutes left in regulation in Saturday's overtime victory against Xavier.

KANSAS NO. 1: Head coach Bill Self didn't have to wait to be No. 1 at Kansas. The Jayhawks, taking advantage of losses by the top four teams last week, jumped from sixth to No. 1 in the Associated Press men's poll. Kentucky (2-0) is No. 9, and Cincinnati (3-0) is No. 19.
