Evendale officers honored
Evendale Police Officers Jeff McDaniel and Doug Abrams were recently recognized for their work during a standoff with an armed suspect in Sharonville.
Abrams was able to quickly assess the situation and provide details to additional responding officers.
He continued to do so even after the suspect began firing a gun out of the house.
McDaniel set up a perimeter with Sharonville officers and evacuated nearby homes. McDaniel also maintained the perimeter post and relayed information to officers.
"I personally commend (their) actions in this high-risk situation," said Evendale Police Lt. Gregg Phillips, the officers' supervisor.
They "put (their) own safety in jeopardy for the protection of the community."
DARE training completed
Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Tony Mitchell recently completed the 49th Ohio Drug Abuse Resistance Education training program at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in London, Ohio.
The two-week course is part of the statewide DARE program sponsored by the Ohio Attorney General's Office, the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the Ohio Department of Education.
DARE is a K-12 curriculum that places officers in classrooms to talk with students.
The course work, which emphasizes self-esteem and resisting peer pressure, helps students understand the consequences of using drugs and alcohol.
Mitchell is assigned to the sheriff's patrol division and lives in Forest Park.
