CPS breaks ground for new school Thursday
WESTWOOD - Groundbreaking ceremonies for Cincinnati Public Schools' new Midway School will begin 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the site, 3165 Glenmore Ave.
Designed for 550 students in pre-school to eighth grade, the $13.2 million building is the third project in CPS' $985 million plan to replace or upgrade schools over the next 10 years. The tentative completion date is May 2005.
Grant allows Milford to offer tutoring
MILFORD - A $113,086 Student Intervention Grant will provide before- and after-school tutoring for first- through fourth- graders in the Milford Schools.

Money from the Ohio Department of Education grant will provide for two teachers at each school to offer the tutoring to 180 students between now and the end of April.
Those in first and second grade will get two extra hours each week in the computer lab working a reading program. Third and fourth grades will also work on reading, focusing on skills needed for the Third Grade Reading Achievement Test and the Fourth Grade Proficiency Test.
Transportation will be provided to the students as part of the grant.
Event marks French holiday celebrations
EAST END - The Alliance Francaise Education Committee will present EDUFest 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Theodore Berry International Friendship Park, 1001 Eastern Ave.
There is no admission charge for the event, a collaborative outreach program designed to highlight French holiday celebrations. Presentations include visual arts, singing, school exchange programs and teaching.
A teacher forum will be held 2-3 p.m. Saturday.
2 Fairfield schools sponsor holiday events
FAIRFIELD - Two Fairfield elementary schools will sponsor holiday celebrations this weekend.
Central's "Winter Wonderland'' will be held 5-8:30 p.m. Friday at the school, 5058 Dixie Highway.
Students can purchase holiday gifts or books from the Scholastic Book Fair. There will also be face painting, a make an ornament table and a visit from Santa Claus.
West Elementary School's PTC will sponsor a Holly Day Parade that begins at Patterson Boulevard at 9:30 a.m. A Santa Shop will be open 9:45 a.m. to noon at the school, 4700 River Road. There will be games, treats, children's crafts and pictures with Santa.
Santa's Secret Shops at Little Miami Schools
MORROW - Santa's Secret Shops are planned at the elementary buildings in the Little Miami Schools.
Low-cost gifts can be purchased today through Friday at Hamilton-Maineville and Dec. 8-12 at Morrow and Butlerville elementary schools.
Butlerville is also hosting a food drive through Friday at the school.
Campbell high school band heads to state
ALEXANDRIA - The Campbell County High School "Band of Pride" has made history. For the first time, it qualified for the State Marching Band Finals at Western Kentucky University by placing third in its class, AAAA, in the semi-finals. The band then went on to place fourth in the finals, another first for the high school.
