If there was ever a time when red was right for lipstick, it's the winter holidays.
But how do you pick the right red, especially when you've erred on the side of pale in the past?
Success is in the skin tone, says Yolanda Webb, former model and CEO of E'Lon Cosmetics in Wyoming.
"First you have to determine what your tone is. If your skin has yellow or orange undertones, you need a deeper red," she says.
"If you have red undertones, you can branch out into deep raspberry or what we call diva red."
But how do you ID your tone? By hair color?
No.
"Press the inside of your wrist. When you let go, you will see a yellow tone or a red tone or an orange tone," she says.
Here are a few more tips from Ladies Home Journal:
Fair with rosy undertones: A cool red with a pink or blue cast or a "true" red with no discernable undertone. Avoid from orange-based reds.
Yellow undertones: A warm red with a peach or orange tone. Avoid blue-based reds.
Olive tones: A true red or one with a hint of brown. Beware of reds with too much orange or pink.
Rosy undertones: Deep, blue-or-pink-based red. Skip the reds with orange or peach bases.
Dark with yellow undertones: Warm, deep red with an orange cast. Avoid blue-based reds.
