UC receives endowment money
U. of CINCINNATI - An anonymous donor has given a $1.88 million endowment to University of Cincinnati's College of Allied Health Sciences for research in the department of nutritional sciences.
The gift will endow a research program for dietary studies in maternal and child nutrition that will focus on birth defects.
UC officials say the gift is the largest of its kind given to the College of Allied Health Sciences since it became part of the UC Medical Center in March 1998.
College of Education accredited at NKU
NORTHERN KENTUCKY U. - The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education formally accredited Northern Kentucky University's College of Education. The council accredits 562 colleges of education.
NKU's College of Education has more than 1,300 undergraduate and 500 graduate students.
M.L. King associate to speak at Xavier
XAVIER - The Thomas Merton Foundation and the Brueggeman Center for Dialogue, a nonprofit center under the theology department at Xavier University, will present Bernard LaFayette Jr. 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schiff Family Conference Center at the Cintas Center.
A colleague of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Lafayette has been a civil rights activist, minister and educator.
He is director of the center of nonviolence and peace studies at the University of Rhode Island.
The event is free to the public.
HUC offers 14-week class on Judaism
HEBREW UNION - Rabbi David Komerofsky, dean of students and director of the rabbinical school at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, will teach a 14-week course titled "An Introduction to Judaism."
The course, offered to Jews and non-Jews who want to enhance their knowledge of Judaism, will begin 7 p.m. Jan. 21 in the Bloch Auditorium at the college's campus on Clifton Avenue.
The class presents a mix of study, discussion and practical experiences designed for those interested in exploring a Jewish life, interfaith couples, non-Jews considering conversion and Jews looking for adult-level basics.

TriHealth, Mount to combine efforts
MOUNT ST. JOSEPH - The College of Mount St. Joseph and TriHealth Inc. are partnering to offer a bachelor of science in nursing degree on-site at Bethesda North and Good Samaritan hospitals.
The program is designed for registered nurses who have an associate degree or diploma.
The first classes began in September with about 30 students participating at each hospital.
The nurses will go through the program together, with a planned graduation in May 2006.
