Gators sluggish in win vs. UCF

College basketball

The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Matt Walsh scored 19 points to lead No. 2 Florida to a grinding 59-39 victory over Central Florida, an opponent that gave the Gators more trouble than they expected.

Florida (4-0) won the first basketball game played at Jacksonville's new Veterans Memorial Arena - host to an NCAA regional in 2006 - but this one looked more like it belonged in a dusty old gym, circa 1950.

UCF (2-2) went 17 for 66 (28 percent) from the field and shot 0 percent from the line - tying an NCAA record by going a clean 0-for-0.

Josh Bodden led the Knights with 14 points. Roberto Morentin had six points and nine rebounds.

No. 8 Texas 103, Wofford 72

AUSTIN, Texas - Brandon Mouton scored 20 points to lead six Texas players in double figures.

The Longhorns (4-0) topped 100 points for the second time in a string of early season tuneups. Kenny Taylor scored 13 points, Brad Buckman and Royal Ivey each had 11 and Sydmill Harris and Brian Boddicker each scored 10 for the Longhorns, who have won 19 straight home games.

Adrien Borders led the Terriers (2-3) with 20 points.

Jesse Rupe led NKU (5-4, 2-1 GLVC) with 23 points and seven rebounds. Howell and Kevin Reinhardt each added 12 points for the Norse.
