The Cincinnati Enquirer
With more than 75,000 fans expected, Kentucky's game Saturday against Michigan State could set a world basketball attendance record. Sales already have exceeded the 69,700 basketball capacity in Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.
The world attendance record is 75,000, set Aug. 21, 1951, during a Harlem Globetrotters exhibition played in Berlin's Olympic Stadium. The largest crowd ever for an NCAA basketball game was 68,112, for a Notre Dame-Louisiana State game Jan. 20, 1990, in the Louisiana Superdome.
The largest crowd to watch a UK game was 64,151 at the 1993 Final Four vs. Michigan in the Superdome.
