Vols assistant says UC is interested
John Chavis, defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Tennessee, told the Knoxville News-Sentinel that he has been contacted about the University of Cincinnati head coaching job.
"Certainly I'd be interested," Chavis, 47, told the News-Sentinel. "I don't know where they are in their process right now."
Chavis could not be reached for comment Thursday. UC athletic director Bob Goin would not confirm that Chavis has been contacted.
Chavis was promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator in 1995 and was named assistant head coach in 1999.
The Volunteers are ranked in the top 20 nationally in total defense this season for the sixth straight year.
