Flyers soaring at 6-0
Dayton joined the national rankings this week after a 6-0 start. The wins haven't all been textbook, but the senior-led team appears to be buying into first-year coach Brian Gregory's system. Gregory is a Tom Izzo disciple who preaches rebounding. The Flyers are outrebounding opponents by an average of more than seven a game and shooting 49.5 percent.
No surprise, but Saint Joseph's Jameer Nelson has won three straight Atlantic 10 Player of the Week awards.
Karl Hobbs' George Washington squad almost came away with the BB&T Classic title last week in a field that included Maryland, West Virginia and Gonzaga. George Washington fell 96-91 to Gonzaga in the final, but it's clear the Colonials (7-2) will be a factor in the A-10 race.
