Judge rules wrestler can stay in school

Public safety

Colerain High School senior Tyler Brewer can stay in school after a judge Monday overruled his expulsion.

The ruling by Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Norbert Nadel allows Brewer, a star wrestler, to make up all work missed since the school quarter started Oct. 27.

Brewer was expelled for being at a fight away from the school. Attorney David Lampe, who represents the Northwest Local School District, argued that allowing Brewer back in school would defy the authority of the school board. And, he said, it would give the perception that athletes are favored.

Nadel called Brewer's case an isolated incident in which Brewer would suffer irreparable harm if he were not allowed back.

Several colleges have expressed interest in offering the 18-year-old a wrestling scholarship.

OVER-THE-RHINE - Cincinnati's latest homicide victim showed up at University Hospital early Monday and later died from his injuries.

Someone drove Bronson Robinson, 33, to the hospital, where emergency room workers called police to report they had the victim of a gunshot wound. Police responded just before 6:30 a.m.

A witness told police Robinson, for whom no address was given, had been in an argument with three to four men in the 1600 block of Vine Street.

Robinson is the 69th victim of homicide in Cincinnati this year. Last year, there were 66.

Woman, 18, killed in Greendale crash

GREENDALE, Ind. - An 18-year-old Cincinnati woman was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Ind. 1 in Dearborn County.

Greendale police identified her as Nicole M. Bartz of Mount Airy. According to police, she was driving a Hyundai Elantra just south of Nowlin Avenue when the car veered off the road, then went left of center, where it was hit by a pickup.

Bartz was taken to Dearborn County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the pickup, Timothy L. Cornett, 47, of Aurora, who had head injuries, was being treated for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries Monday night at University Hospital.

Man sentenced to life in murder of his wife

LAKESIDE PARK - The man who recorded a rap video glorifying his wife's killing will spend at least 20 years behind bars.

Kenton Circuit Judge Douglas Stephens followed a jury's recommendation when he sentenced Dennis Greene Sr. to life in prison on Monday.

In November, the jury found Greene guilty of the murder of Tara Barrett Greene, his wife and a teacher at Holmes High School in Covington.

During Monday's hearing, Greene told the court he loved his wife and family and didn't plot to kill her.

Greene will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.
