WEST END - Girl Scout Troop 508, which meets at Summit Country Day School, displayed holiday cheer and patriotism to Cincinnati police Sunday afternoon during a roll call at District 1 headquarters.
Violinist Alexandra Amend, 10, of Green Township, a fifth-grader at Summit Country Day, played "The Star-Spangled Banner" and holiday songs. The girls sang with police officers and then served them cake and candy canes.
The officers belted out "Jingle Bells" and gave the girls a tour before starting their shifts.
The 12 Girl Scouts wanted to show appreciation for police, said Maureen Amend, Alexandra's mother and a Scout volunteer.
"Police sometimes have a thankless job," Amend said. "It's nice to show them support. Sometimes the only exposure children have to police is when their parents are pulled over for a speeding ticket."
Saturday, the girls will serve a pancake breakfast and play music for the 611th Engineering Co., an Army Reserve unit in Sharonville, and reservists' families.
