FAIRFIELD - Nine families in the Fairfield area will have plenty of food this holiday season thanks to students at Fairfield Middle School.

During a recent drive, the students collected more than 500 non-perishable items. The foodstuffs were packed for the families the school adopted, with the rest being donated to Shared Harvest.
Another 50 children will get gifts from the students at Fairfield Senior High School. The school participated in the Salvation Army's Giving Tree Program.
Last week the gifts were picked up from the school and distributed to families.
And 12 families will receive holiday baskets thanks to collections by students at Central Elementary.
One Way Farm received dental care items from the students at North Elementary School.
Freshman School students donated to canned food, spare change and Adopt a Family programs besides making holiday cards for nursing home residents.
English classes at Lindeman Elementary
ERLANGER - Adult English classes for non-native speakers will be offered in the Erlanger Schools beginning Jan. 6.
The classes will run 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays in the library at Lindeman Elementary School, 558 Erlanger Road.

Mason teacher publishes article
MASON - A Mason Middle School science teacher has had an article published in Science Scope, a publication of the National Science Teachers Association.
Carla Johnson's article "Bioterrorism is Real-World Science," appears in the November/December issue.
Johnson addresses the National Science Education Standards in life science as well as personal health issues with a unit on bioterrorism developed in response to anthrax and SARS outbreaks. Last year she presented the unit at the National Science Teachers Association's national meetings.
Glen Este senior gets scholarship
GLEN ESTE - A Glen Este High School senior has received an $8,000 renewable scholarship from the College of Mount St. Joseph.
Kayla Hoffard received the Trustee Scholarship based on her academic achievements.
The Glen Este Middle School seventh-grade math team recently participated in the third annual Councils of Teachers of Mathematics competition, receiving a superior rating and a trophy.
Special-needs kids party at Rapid Run
DELHI TWP. - Special-needs students at Delshire Elementary School were treated to a party planned by special education students in Marisa Groh's Rapid Run Middle School classroom.
Together, the older and younger special-needs students worked together to decorate cookies and make ornaments for school and home trees.
Families of the middle school students will get surprise Christmas gifts following a holiday shopping trip earlier this week.
