Princeton students share


In the schools

SHARONVILLE - Princeton Junior High School students collected more than 2 tons of food and household products during the annual holiday food drive this month.

Proceeds from the drive, organized by the National Junior Honor Society and student council, were donated to the Mercy Franciscan food bank.

Other donations from Princeton students include:

• The Princeton High School Jobs for Cincinnati Graduates collected $1,088 to buy gifts for 20 families.

• Students in grades 3-6 in Glendale Elementary School's academic programs for the talented, collected 200 books that will be presented to children.

• About 100 gifts and $300 in gift certificates will go to eight families through Evendale Elementary School's Giving Tree program sponsored by student council.

More CPS teachers earn national certification

CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Federation of Teachers plans to honor 14 teachers in the Cincinnati Public Schools district on Jan. 14 for achieving national board certification.

The "advance proficiency" designation is the highest level of professional certification available nationwide. Teachers must pass a rigorous assessment process. Including the 14, Cincinnati Public Schools employs 123 national board-certified teachers. Nationwide, there are 32,131.

The teachers are Maureen Andreadis and Andrew Ramsay at the Academy of World Languages, Sarah Boeres at Schiel Primary School for Arts Enrichment, Susan Breitenstein at Vine Elementary, Lori Cahall at South Avondale Elementary, Jo Ann Guido at Clark Montessori High School, John Lamping at Douglass Year-Round School, Pamela Pack at Pleasant Ridge Elementary, , Jamie Richardson at Sands Montessori, Heather Riley at Clifton, Charlyn Dennis-Sanford at Western Hills University, Susan Shackelford at Dater Montessori, Deidre Simpson at Heberle Elementary and Cynthia Wehrle at Windsor Elementary.

Campbell Co. Middle renovates gymnasium

ALEXANDRIA - Just in time for winter sports, Campbell County Middle School finished renovating the gymnasium. There are new bleachers and interior color scheme, four new side goals and rims, sound system, upgraded lighting, acoustical sound panels and new wall mats.

Fairfield teachers support March 2 school levy

FAIRFIELD - The 6.9-mill operating levy the Fairfield Board of Education put on the March 2 ballot has the support of the Fairfield Classroom Teachers Association. At last week's board of education meeting, Alexis Vafides, association president, presented a $1,000 check to Citizens For Fairfield Schools.

Five Mason teachers achieve national certification

MASON - Five teachers in the Mason Schools have earned National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards after going through a yearlong application process.

Mason Middle School teachers Audrey Daubenmerkl and Donna Kirch, along with Mason High School teachers Debbie Gentene, Randy Doughman and Micah Ewing, were notified this month they had received the certification - the highest professional credential in the field of teaching.
