Bowling Green rewards Brandon with extension
Enquirer news services
Bowling Green coach Gregg Brandon received a two-year contract extension after leading the Falcons to just the third 11-win season in school history.
Brandon's contract now runs through the 2008 season. Financial terms will be finalized when Brandon and athletic director Paul Krebs return from family vacations in early January, the school said in a press release.
Brandon was promoted to coach last December after Urban Meyer left the Falcons for Utah.
Bowling Green went 11-3 this season, which concluded with Friday's 28-24 victory over Northwestern in the Motor City Bowl. The Falcons tied the school record for victories set during the 1985 and '91 seasons.
VIRGINIA TECH: Defensive back and punt returner DeAngelo Hall has decided to skip his senior season to enter the NFL draft. He made the announcement Friday night following the Hokies' 52-49 loss to California in the Insight Bowl.
An all-Big East selection, Jones returned three punts for touchdowns this season. The last was the most spectacular, a 52-yarder that tied Friday night's game at 49-49 with 3:11 to play.
PURDUE: Three Boilermakers have been ruled academically ineligible for the Capital One Bowl, including starting cornerback Jacques Reeves, who is fourth on the team with 64 tackles and also has two interceptions.
Defensive tackle Dontrey Flemings and offensive lineman Nick Pilipauskis, who have played sparingly this season, also are ineligible.
Purdue (9-3) plays Georgia (10-3) on Jan. 1 in Orlando, Fla.
