Gophers win on field goal

Auburn, Utah also win bowl games

The Associated Press

EL PASO, Texas - Englishman Rhys Lloyd kicked a 42-yard field goal with 23 seconds left to give No. 24 Minnesota a 31-30 victory over Oregon in the Sun Bowl on Wednesday.

Oregon had taken a 30-28 lead on a 47-yard field goal by Jared Siegel with 4:16 left before the Golden Gophers (10-3) drove 55 yards to set up the winner by Lloyd.

The Ducks (8-5) had one last chance to score but Kellen Clemens' pass was intercepted by Justin Isom with 10 seconds left.

Laurence Maroney carried 15 times for 135 yards and a touchdown to lead Minnesota, which was beaten by Oregon in the 1999 Sun Bowl. Thomas Tapeh added three touchdowns rushing for the Golden Gophers. Minnesota outrushed the Ducks 241-77.

Gopher quarterback Asad Abdul-Khaliq was 12-for-21 for 172 yards. Aaron Hosack caught six passes for 107 yards.
