The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Senior Center on the city's west side is important for a generation of gays and lesbians who lived through years of discrimination, said Ron Hill, executive director of the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging.

Hill said gay and lesbian seniors don't usually go to centers and are reluctant to seek services they might need.

Cleveland has gay groups that include seniors, but the center provides the only free daytime space solely for homosexuals.

Little League mom charged with theft

MAUMEE, Ohio - The treasurer of the Maumee Little League was charged with three counts of grand theft after being accused of stealing more than $30,000 from the organization, police said.

Catherine Eppard, the mother of three little leaguers in this Toledo suburb, also was charged Friday with three counts of tampering with records and one count of misdemeanor theft.

Eppard, the Maumee Little League treasurer the past two years, was responsible for collecting fees and paying vendors, police said.

I-70 crash east of Columbus kills four

GRANVILLE, Ohio - A driver lost control and started a chain reaction of crashes that killed four people late Saturday, the State Highway Patrol said.

The investigation closed part of Interstate 70 about 20 miles east of Columbus for at least six hours overnight.

Four people in a Toyota Camry were killed, the patrol said. They were Joel Heisley, 18, his sister Alisha Heisley, whose age wasn't available, and Nathan McIntosh, 19, all of Columbus; and David George, 20, of Upper Sandusky.

Investigators said the accident began about 11 p.m. Saturday when a small westbound sedan lost control and veered right, striking a guardrail and then the Camry.

That sent the Camry into oncoming traffic, where it struck another car before being hit by a tractor-trailer, the patrol said.

Police shoot suspect in Louisville sting

LOUISVILLE - A police officer shot a man outside a liquor store after a drug sting went awry, police said.

Metro Police Chief Robert White said undercover officer McKenzie Mattingly was attempting to buy drugs from the suspect late Saturday night.

"It was a drug deal that went bad, and, as a result of that, there was a tussle for the service weapon," White said Sunday.

The man was identified as Michael Newby, 19, of Louisville. Newby was pronounced dead at University of Louisville Hospital soon after the incident.
