A West End man was indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury Monday on charges that he shook his 4-month-old daughter so hard on Dec. 26 that she later died.
Aleph Phelps, 25, was charged with murder and felonious assault, accused of killing Kayla Stallworth.
Investigators say Phelps told police he was trying to stop the child from choking. If convicted, Phelps faces up to life in prison.
Phelps served a four-month prison sentence in 2002 after violating probation on a 2001 domestic violence charge relating to a woman who has the same last name as Kayla.
Internet pals accused of sex with minors
Two out-of-state men are accused of having sex with two 14-year-old Hamilton County teenagers they met on the Internet, according to an indictment filed Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.
Michael Farris, 37, of Arkansas, was indicted on six charges of unlawful sex with a minor and four charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
Jeffrey Fleek, 36, of Taylor Mill, Ky., was indicted on four charges of unlawful sex with a minor and two charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
The pandering charges relate to the men's role in producing obscene videos involving the girls, according to the prosecutor's office.
Each man faces more than 20 years in prison if convicted.
Crime Stoppers program in schools
Cincinnati school and law enforcement officials this month will launch Ohio's first Student Crime Stoppers Program. It is being funded by a federal grant.
Students will be appointed to the Crime Stoppers board. Publicity, communication and outreach for the program will be increased in schools.
Students who step forward with tips leading to arrests will be eligible for cash awards.
