WESTWOOD - Juanita E. Hauck Harsham was one of only four surviving members of the class of 1934 from the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing.
After graduation, she worked at Good Sam on the men's surgical floor. There she met Albert Harsham - a lab technician and medical school student - and married him.
Together they operated the Harsham Clinical Laboratory in Cheviot for some 35 years. They provided lab testing and produced vaccinations for many Greater Cincinnati physicians.
Mrs. Harsham, 90, died of pneumonia Friday. She had lived in her Westwood home for 50 years.
Much of the success of her husband's clinic can be attributed to her, according to her son, Richard of Westwood.
"She was the bulwark in the sense that she handled much of the business administration," he said.
She retired in the late 1960s.
A native of Greendale, Mrs. Harsham was a Girl Scout troop leader and a member of the Cincinnati Weaver's Guild. In the 1970s, she took home honors for some of the rugs she wove.
But more than anything, "she loved people and loved to help people in their time of need," her son said.
In addition to her son, survivors include two other sons, Thomas of Cincinnati and Peter of New York City; a daughter, Tina Blackburn of Fairfield, Conn.; a sister, Toby Burton of Louisville; and a grandson.
A memorial service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church, 3207 Montana Ave. in Westwood. Burial will be at Greendale Cemetery in Lawrenceburg.
Memorials: Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, 375 Dixmyth Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45220; or a charity of the donor's choice.
