USA edges Canada 4-3 for Junior Worlds title
The Enquirer and wire reports
The United States won its first world junior hockey title Monday in Helsinki, beating Canada 4-3 after goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury's failed clearing pass ended up in his own goal.
Fleury's pass bounced off teammate Braydon Coburn and into the Canadian goal with 5:12 left, capping a three-goal rally by the Americans. Patrick O'Sullivan was credited with the goal, his second of the game.
"This rates up there with the Miracle on Ice," said tournament MVP Zach Parise, referring to the 1980 Winter Olympics when Team USA won the gold medal.
Ohio State product Ryan Kesler and Ohio native Dan Fritsche of the Columbus Blue Jackets also scored for Team USA.
MONDAY NHL HIGHLIGHT: Curtis Joseph made 26 saves for his 43rd career shutout, and Jason Woolley and Kris Draper scored twice each in Detroit's 6-0 win over the Nashville Predators.

McGRAW DIES: Tug McGraw, the zany relief pitcher who coined the phrase "You Gotta Believe" with the New York Mets and later closed out the Philadelphia Phillies' only World Series title, died Monday. He was 59. McGraw died of brain cancer, which he had been battling since March.
Bob Boone, who was the Phillies' catcher from 1972-81, remained a close friend, too. "I was pleased I was able to be with him a little the last couple of months," Boone said from Anaheim, Calif. "All of a sudden it hit and he went real quick, which probably is a blessing."
