Cincinnati State offers Harrison nursing classes

CINCINNATI STATE - For the first time, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College will offer nursing courses at its Harrison location during winter term, which runs Feb. 2-April 5.

While the nursing courses are open only to current students, other courses being offered at Harrison in winter term are open to any students who meet course prerequisites. Most courses do not have prerequisites.

Bible College adds degree program

CINCINNATI BIBLE COLLEGE - Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary, 2700 Glenway Ave., Price Hill, will offer a non-traditional accelerated degree completion program for adults who want to complete their third and fourth years of college. The program will lead to a bachelor's of science in biblical studies with two different professional cores. The first is leadership and ministry. The second is management and ethics.

Participants can receive an accredited degree by attending one night of class per week over a 24-month period.

The first group will register Feb. 12 and begin classes Feb. 26. It will be a Thursday night group and will follow the leadership and ministry professional core.

The second group will register April 12 and begin classes April 26.

This will be a Monday night group and will follow the management and ethics professional core.

XU, UC prepare for 'Crosstown Helpout'

XAVIER - Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati give back to the community during the seventh annual "Crosstown Helpout" Jan. 24.

About 900 volunteers, including students, alumni and friends of both universities, are expected. Volunteers will gather 8 a.m. at UC's Shoemaker Center.

XU President Michael Graham and UC President Nancy Zimpher will kick off the event.

From there, volunteers will split into teams and go 37 schools and agencies in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky to work on projects including painting and plastering walls, waxing floors, picking up trash and more.

Gateway counselor wins trade award

GATEWAY - The Kentucky Career Development Association has selected Cindy Sproehnle, assessment center director at Gateway Community and Technical College, career counselor of the year.

UC professors awarded fellowships

UC - Three University of Cincinnati professors in the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences have received National Endowment for Humanities fellowships.

History professor Ann Twinam and classics professors Kathryn Gutzwiller and C. Brian Rose will use the grants to continue research.

Twinam's project is "Sexuality, Illegitimacy and Family in the Hispanic World: 1476-1800."

Gutzwiller's project is called "The Poetics of Anthology: An Edition and Commentary for the Epigrams of Meleager."

Rose will continue his 15-year excavations of the city of Troy.

The project, "The Archaeology of Troy in the Greek, Roman and Byzantine Periods," will compile the information so far obtained.

It aims to provide the first reconstruction of life at Troy from about 1200 B.C. through A.D. 1300.
