Sponsors sought for spring sports

WEST CHESTER - The Lakota Sports Organization is looking for team sponsors for spring soccer, baseball and girls' softball and fall soccer and flag football. Sponsorships are $250 for the first team sponsored and $150 for each additional team. Sponsors will have the company logo and/or name printed on the team's jersey and will receive a team photo and sponsor plaque.

Sponsors will also be listed on the Lakota Sports Organization Web page and for an additional $25 can have their company Web page link added to the page.

Sponsors may register online at lakotasports.org with a credit card or they can download a sponsor form from the Web site and mail it in with a check.

Lane Library offers free help on taxes

HAMILTON - The Lane Public Library will offer free tax help to senior citizens, the disabled and low-income community members beginning Feb. 2.

The sessions, by appointment only, will be run by volunteers from the AARP at each of Lane's three branches until April 15.

Sessions will be available at: the Fairfield branch from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays; 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays; the Hamilton branch from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; and the Oxford branch from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays.

Arbor Day Foundation offering free trees

People who join the National Arbor Day Foundation this monthwill get 10 free trees.

The trees, measuring six inches to a foot in height, will be shipped between February and May. They are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced.

Classes about trees will begin in February

MASON - An educational series on trees kicks off Feb. 24 with a session about the basics of planting, maintenance and landscape design.

Additional sessions will be March 2 and March 9. The free sessions will be in Meeting Room 1 of the Mason Community Center, 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road.

Singer McLean to appear in Mason

MASON - Another chart-topping singer and songwriter will headline the city's Fourth of July event.

Don McLean, best known for songs "American Pie" and "Vincent" (Starry, Starry Nights), will entertain the 5,000 to 7,000 people expected to attend the 2004 Red, Rhythm & Boom. The event, scheduled for July 3, 2004, will also include a climbing wall, children's entertainment and fireworks.

City council has approved a $25,000 contract to bring McLean here and will also pay for other expenses such as sound, lighting and accommodations.
