DePaul clobbers Bearcats 88-61

CHICAGO - DePaul's Khara Smith scored a career-high 35 points as the 18th-ranked Blue Demons handed the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team its second straight loss, 88-61 Sunday in Conference USA play.

The 27-point defeat was UC's worst in eight years, dating to a 105-69 loss at DePaul on Feb. 24, 1995.

The Bearcats dropped to 9-7 and, coupled with Friday's loss at Marquette, are 0-2 in league play. DePaul improved to 14-1 and 2-0 in C-USA.

Debbie Merrill led the Bearcats with 21 points, while Treasure Humphries added 11 and Valerie King 10.

Duquesne 83, Xavier 69

PITTSBURGH - Sophomore Tara Boothe tied her career high with 31 points, but it wasn't enough for Xavier.

Boothe was 13-of-16 from the field for Xavier (9-6, 1-3 Atlantic 10). She also had seven rebounds. Candace Futrell led Duquesne (7-7, 3-1) with a career-high 36 points.

Kristy Wallner added 12 points for Xavier, and Suntana Granderson had eight after being named the A-10 rookie of the week. Miranda Green had a team-high seven assists.

The Musketeers play Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. Friday at the Cintas Center.

EVANSTON, Ill. - Caity Matter hit four 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead the Buckeyes. Mason grad Michelle Munoz scored 14 points, and LaToya Turner had 13 points and seven rebounds for OSU (10-4, 2-1 Big Ten).
