UC student charged over chemical bomb
A University of Cincinnati student is accused of making two chemical bombs that he exploded in his dorm Dec. 5, forcing it to be evacuated and spraying chemicals on students.
A Hamilton County grand jury on Tuesday indicted Ryan R. Simpson, 20, who had been living in Siddall Hall, on two charges of aggravated arson.
Simpson combined chemicals from a military heater pack with water in a plastic bottle to create the bombs, and then exploded one in the bathroom of Siddall Hall, an affidavit said. When students evacuated the building, a second chemical bomb exploded over the entrance of the hall spraying the students, the affidavit said.
No students were injured, according to the university.
Simpson is on interim suspension, according to the university.
If convicted, Simpson faces up to 20 years in prison.
