Lakota fund to benefit academic projects
WEST CHESTER TWP. - Lakota schools teachers and staff with ideas for classroom projects may soon be able to fund them through the Lakota Fund of The Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty.
The Lakota Fund, which was created by donations, is offering grants for academic projects to benefit Lakota students. Teachers and staff can apply online at www.wclfoundation.com.
Proposals will be reviewed and awarded on an ongoing basis by the Lakota Fund's advisory committee, consisting of educators and Community Foundation representatives.
Nuxhall billboards support operating levy
FAIRFIELD - Don't be surprised to see pictures of the Old Left Hander on billboards in Fairfield and Fairfield Township in February.
Reds broadcaster and Fairfield resident Joe Nuxhall will be featured with several students on three billboards placed by Citizens For Fairfield Schools, a committee working to pass the 6.9-mill operating levy the Fairfield Board of Education has put on the March 2 primary ballot.
Nuxhall is one of several dignitaries who have agreed to help promote the issue, said levy co-chairman Pam Elcik.
Learning Lab ready to enroll preschoolers
LEBANON - The Learning Lab Preschool at the Warren County Career Center, 3525 N. Ohio 48, will begin open enrollment Tuesday for the 2004-05 school year.
Morning classes run 8:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and afternoon sessions run 1-3:45 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Up to 26 special needs and typically developing preschoolers can be enrolled in each session.
Grant to bring laptop labs to Edgewood
TRENTON - Edgewood Middle and Senior High schools will get laptop computer labs, thanks to a $96,192 grant written by Gary Lovely, director of technology, and Linda Lovely, Bloomfield Elementary School's media specialist.
The grant from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services will also allow the technology department to create an electronic resource-training program for teachers and community members.
Talawanda educator receives high honor
OXFORD - Talawanda High School's media specialist Carol Morison is one of 8,195 Ohio educators who achieved National Board Certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.
Morison, who has more than 20 years of education experience, received the highest honor available to teachers after going through a yearlong evaluation that included making a videotape of her work. Before becoming a media specialist, Morison was a reading and language arts teacher at the middle school.
Kings, Hoxworth to hold blood drive
DEERFIELD TWP. - Kings Schools will team with the Hoxworth Blood Center for the third annual blood drive Friday at the school's gymnasium, 5500 Columbia Road.
Donors can visit the school from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or from noon to 3 p.m. Call Jorge Gonzalez at 398-8050, ext.11029, to make an appointment.
