WEST CHESTER TWP. - Republican George Lang's first official vote as township trustee was to promote a Democrat.
Lang and fellow Republican Jose Alvarez on Tuesday night elected outspoken Catherine Stoker to trustees president - for the year that she'll campaign against Republican Mike Fox for Butler County commissioner.
"I don't see running for office as president being a big advantage, because I ran against a president and won by a big margin," said Lang, who defeated trustees President Dave Tacosik in November.
Lang, owner of Jag's restaurant in the Union Centre area, was endorsed by the Republican Party and received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from party officials.
"Maybe we'll keep her real busy (with township business), so she can't campaign as much," Lang joked.
Turning serious, he acknowledged Stoker's 10 years as a trustee: "I do think it (the office of president) is well deserved."
